WEDNESDAY: Boat Races, Watermelon, and the Gladiator
Wednesday was a full day. Every morning we sing songs in Hungarian, Gypsy, and Romanian. Of course all songs have a lot of motion to them.
After lunch, the children went to test out their rubber band, paddelwheel boats in the river. They always have a great time when the regatta takes place. After the races, the river is full from the rains so it is actually deep enough to jump in. Then, the afternoon rotation of activities took place.
What really brought out the smiles and cheers was the watermelon. Boy was it good--sweet to the rin. We had enough watermelon for everyone to get two pieces. They really enjoyed it. The staff posed for a picture that they thought was only for them. Now it will be shown internationally. A testimony to a great staff for camp.
Soccer or football is a mainstay at the camp. They are really good to be as young as some of them are. They make some amazing plays and display some pretty exciting footwork. Usually its the team that actually plays as a team that wins. Of course, old Americans like myself kick the ball every now of then. It takes a lot of practice to head the ball without driving the top of your baseball cap into your head or smashing your glasses on your nose.
Today, I want to feature our drama activities. The yellow group won the drama tonight by presenting the best original play--never seen or thought about in camp before--The conversion of a gladiator. The drama was complete with blood, swords, and lots of action. The blue group did a commom theme of the dramas of the usual life of Gypsy--they did a great job ending with the conversion of the young lady. The Red group acted out the story of the day--the cleaning up the temple by Josiah the King complete with trash and broom.
During all of our group times Robby translates for four children who speak only Romanian. Tonight, Robby and Emi gave their testimonies. Floyd spoke. The end of another great day.
