Monday: Cold Water and Big Storm
We had a great beginning to the camp. Our first full day had its challenges but
everything went well. Late in the afternoon,
we had a hugh storm that lasted on and off most of the night. The storm forced us inside. Included is the second picture which shows the
diversity of the Roma people. One girl
is what we often think of as Gypsy (Roma)-Dark hair, dark eyes, and dark
complexion and the other girl is blond, blue eyes, and fair complexion.
In the morning was our regular schedule of staff devotion,
breakfast, cleaning up the rooms, and prayer time with the children. Our big group time began at 10. Awards were given for the cleanest
rooms. The boys get to keep a stuffed
eagle (not real) in their rooms for the cleanest room. The girls get to keep a stuffed pig for the
cleanest room. After recognizing clean
rooms, Katie taught the Bible Story for the day. Then we had a small group discussion and
prayer time. The Red, Blue, and Yellow
groups worked on skits related to the story and Scriptures to present in the evening
worship.
The games time came next.
The sack races proved to be very exciting with many close races and
ties. This carried over into the jump
through the hoop race and the over under contest. The fourth game, bean bag toss, ended with
Yellow and Red tired for first place. We
had a toss off between the leaders.
Annamarie, Red, threw both of her bean bags through the hole. Attila, Red, followed with both of his
through the hole. A total of 4
points!!! This really put the pressure
on the Yellow leadership team. Robby
and Emi, Yellow had to make all of their throws—they made one. Red won the context.
After lunch we all went, swimming (one young man had a fever
and did not get to go). The water was
cold---no, it was freezing. It was so
cold that we did not get use to it even through we continued to jump in and
playe in it. Gershom and Zalan, Zolie
and Abigai Dohi’s boys really enjoyed the water. They also enjoyed going up the mountain. Even yours truly jumped in and swam around a
little. Not many pictures due to the
swimming attire of some children.
After swimming we had the daily rotations: crafts, music, and English. All went well until we were almost finished
and the storm came. We gathered in the
big group room. The first thing that we
did was give out a snack of apples.
Then, we dusted off the bingo pieces and cards. We spend about an hour playing Bingo until supper
interrupted out game.
Adel Nagy arranged for the staff’s clothes to be
washed. She hung them out for all of
us. We barely got them in before the
storm broke loose.
At night we had the skits from Yelllow, Red and Bloue. Yellow won tonight. Floyd
spoke on following Jesus (It’s not where you come from, it’s who you are
following that matters in life. “. We
had a great day in every way.
