Tuesday: Mbeya

On Tuesday morning, we headed off for Mbeya and Tukuyu to visit Mpeli and Neema's mothers and get settled in for the teaching conferences that begin on Wednesday. We had an uneventful 4.5 hour drive to Mbeya. We had lunch in Mbeya at a local Nyoma choma restaurant (grilled meat). We had grilled beef bites and ribs with fries--very good. We went to our Hotel and dropped off our luggage. Then, we went to the Mbeya Hospital to visit Mpeli's mother. She was doing a little better but still suffering from fluid around her lungs. We hope that she will continue to do better and be able to go home by the weekend. We traveled to Tukuyu to visit Neema's mother who is not doing well. She is staying at Neema's sister's home. Neema's father, Harry Mwasanjale, met us there. Harry is a great friend. He has known Bernard Kabaru Mwangi for some time. Bonnie and I first met Harry in 2004. Through him, we met Mpeli and Neema. We had a great time talking about old times and new issues.
