Home in Satu Mare and Roma Relief
Today Zsolt Deake, one of the seminary students, was kind enough to give me a ride to Satu Mare--my train was running late and he offered to take me to Satu Mare. So, I arrived in the Vekas family home at the Satu Mare Hungarian Baptist Church over an hour earlier than planned. The Vekas family was the first Romanian family that I stayed with in May 2000 (Bonnie stayed with them in August 1999). The Satu Mare church was my first experience worshiping in a Hungarian church in Romania. Bonnie and I have always referred to it as our home church in Romania. We have had many partnerships with the church including the development of three Roma churches.
Even now, I met with the church leaders to celebrate the latest partnership. ACTS Fellowship, Greenville, SC, the Satu Mare Church, and Teleios Ministry partnered to provide food packets for Roma families who have been effected by the loss of work due to the downturn in European economy. Each month a little over 110 families have been assisted. The food packet relief effort began in November. Due to the generosity of both churches the food packets will be delivered for one additional month making six months of food assistance. The result has been a strong witness for the Lord and a stronger relationship between the Roma and the Satu Mare church. Also, this was a blessing to ACTS Fellowship and Teleios Ministry. I hope to have pictures available to post tomorrow of the food packet ministry.
Zoltan Vekas is doing "enough well" as he likes to say. He continues to preach a couple of times a week. Just Sunday he was preaching at a new by village for evangelistic services. Tomorrow he and Elisabeth (with me traveling with them) will make their usual trip to Cluj, Romania for his weekly chemotherapy treatments. The news so far is that the tumors have not grown. Please continue to pray for Zoltan, Elisabeth, Benjamin, and Blanca. Please remember the Satu Mare church.
Benjamin is a teacher in the local schools. He teaches Hungarian speaking students German and Romanian speaking students English. Blance continues to be the gracious host. She is not working as much now as prior to Christmas at her job.
