The Apalina Children Finish Up A Great Camp

This week we had two boys who brought nothing with them—clothes on their back and the shoes on their feet.    We were able to get them an extra set of clothes, Adel let them use her towels and from extra supplies came toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap.   One of the boys said, “I want to stay here—we have food everyday—good food!”   The girls enjoyed a special treat of painting their finger nails and toe nails.   This produced some very interesting colors and a lot of fun--that is the leaders.  You should have seen the children.

They learn Bible verses every day in Romanian, Hungarian, and Gypsy.   They love Bingo and Dodge ball.   All our free time is spent with Bingo and Dodge ball.   Of course, there is always a winner.   The children have to clean their rooms everyday.   Every day the children rooms are inspected to see if their clean and at night a “judge” goes around to see if they are quiet.   For  clean rooms and being quiet at night they receive points.   At the end of the week , the room with the most points gets prizes to share.

They are also divided into groups by color: Purple, Gold, and Green.   These are the teams for recreation, learning Bible verses, and answering questions on the Bible stories of the week.   They earn points for these things and at the end of the week the winning team gets prizes.

They love playing with water balloons, regular balloons, and beach balls.   The food at camp has been very good.  The children really enjoy it.   Zozo, Jeno and Anna keep them going learning new songs.

We had two sisters from Reghin join the leadership team this year.   Both of them are very good in English.  Orsi just graduated from the university in Computer Science.   Ildiko is the youngest and she is studying nursing at a local university.   Orsi has been going with Floyd shopping for food and supplies for the camp as his interpreter, translator, and partner in “crime.”  When Floyd could not get what was needed and said, “This is crazy!” to a lady.  Orsi, said to the worman, “He is crazy.”   The woman smiled, Floyd smiled, and Orsi got what was needed from the lady.    Everyone was happy.

Two men who remembered the camp from previous years came by selling watermelons.  We bought some big watermelons and they were delicious.  The children really enjoyed them for an afternoon treat.

The closing worship time was very special.   The children had planted seeds that morning.   During worship, they were encouraged to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ.  At end of the worship every children wanted to pray with someone about what was happening in their lives.   This was a first.  So Attila had them go to their rooms and there the leaders prayed and talked with each child and the groups.

Every camp has to come to end.   The Apalina camp ended after lunch.  The children cleaned up the camp, packed their bags, took the travel sickness tablets, and waited.  The bus with the second group was a little late.  Bonnie had an extra craft and Attila had Bingo.  We had a great time with the Apalina children.

Thank you for your prayers and support.
