Friday: The End of Great but Quick Bible Week

The Holiday Bible Camp at Gatunguru was a great week.  Relationships of the past were strengthened, new relationships formed, and the opportunity for future growth recognized.  The children and teens had a great week.  Bernard, Bonnie, Carol, Kristi, Linda, Shirley, and Victoria did a great job.  This was a true partnership effort between the Gatunguru area churches, the Koinonia Team, and the Teleios Team.

Today was Europe and Australia day.  The seven continents were covered by Kristi and Victoria.  The teens made their own books with information and art that they wanted to remember.  In crafts, castles were made.  The final bible story of Peter's vision was presented. During the week, six teens made decisions to follow Jesus Christ as they divided into small groups to discuss and ask questions.  During recreation, the children and youth played "Sheep Herding" with ping pong paddles and wiffle balls.  The most exhausting game of the week finished a week of recreation with "Flees," a form of dodge ball.

In appreciation, the churches of the Gatunguru Association gave us bags of local tea.  Those of you who have been to the Teleios Fourth of July Picnic have enjoyed Gatunguru tea before. This end-of-the-week gathering is always of special time.  The Teleios Team, the Koinonia Team, and the Gatunguru Team members were all recognized.  The children and teens were  then recognized and given "gifts" reminding them of the continents and the theme Bible verse for the week: "Love your neighbor as yourself..."

Pastor Peter invited us to come back for one more year.  He and Bonnie have built a great relationship as she led our team.  Maybe you would like to join us in late 2014 for another trip to Gatunguru.

At the end of the week, we had one more meeting.  A group of widows started a support group out of the last Holiday Bible Week at Gatunguru in December 2011.  Now they are meeting to encourage and assist one another.

Each of these widows shared the struggle of their husbands' families trying to take their property from them when the husband died. This is a serious problem. Not only does the widow suffer from the death of her husband, but she must deal with likely eviction from her home (even with her children).  These widows are helping each other in this struggle and all shared how they have "beaten" the efforts to drive them from their homes.
